Welcome to "Karen's Korner!" Launching this newsletter is long overdue. Thank you for being patient with me as I've been applying the very principles I teach. I have just updated my website. Please visit it at www.karengridley.com. |

How often in life do we avoid a task claiming it's too difficult? Too overwhelming? We don't know how? Or don't know where to begin? Are these truths or excuses?
Seems to me more often than not they're excuses. Why excuses, especially since there is some truth to these prohibiting claims? Because for me, and I suspect I have plenty of company, I am my biggest obstacle! What if it's not right? What if it's not perfect? Someone might not like me or what I'm doing - ugh! How about you? Do you ever have these kinds of thoughts?
This leads to a very logical conclusion, "I know, I'll wait until it's worthy of ________???" You fill in the blank. Then it hits me - How does anything improve? Something cannot improve if it hasn't started!
The perfect place to start anything is right where you are with what you have. After all, that's where you are and what you have! Pick up one piece of paper, write one sentence, or make one phone call - whatever your task requires. Sure you'll get better over time, but ONLY if you take that seemingly horrifying first step. To me that step feels like falling into the abyss without any knowledge of a bottom. What really amazes me is how well I know and apply this concept in many areas of my life and yet in other areas it's as if the concept is a foreign language. This is one of the major reasons for accountability partners, mentors, and coaches - They don't allow you to get away with being less than who you are capable of being - even when you don't believe it yourself!
Thanks to one of my most influential and loving mentors, Marsha Petrie Sue, this newsletter is launched. She gave me what she commonly refers to as a "KITA" - kick in the anatomy. Basically she gave me a deadline to produce results or deal with her regarding undisclosed consequences - the tone told it all!
Who do you have in your life that won't allow you to sit idle when it's time for action? |
